SOUNDTRACKS OF MY LIFE

When Pink Floyd Braved the Hot Lava of Vesuvius and Played for No Audience

The band they were in kept playing different tunes — sort of together. No, seriously. Watch the video and see . . .

The best cover of Pink Floyd was Brit Floyd at Red Rocks. If you enjoyed Pompeii, take a look at Red Rocks (no volcano though).

What’s strange to me is that way back in the 60s and 70s, my music came from listening to albums at Dave’s house. We would sit for hours, listening to various bands, but heavy on Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd, just listening and toking. Thirty years later or so, I finally got to see these bands on YouTube. I have to say, it was strange to finally see the performers I had listened to for so many decades.

I came to appreciate Pink Floyd even more, but got really turned-off seeing a drunken Jim Morrison of the Doors trying to perform and really messing with the rest of the band. I wasn’t happy to see the Rolling Stones encouraging violence in California either. I should have just stuck with albums in those cases.

My inspiration for writing this brief article, well it was Reuben Salsa, no doubt, but goddam Medium never showed me The Riff, and OMG there’s a million inspirations lurking there:

That’s all for now. I just wanted to share in case you were interested in those two concerts, or Reuben Salsa’s recommended movie, “Head.”
I’ve been carrying soundtracks in my head now for more than 50 years, and I know that I’m not alone. Oh, the stories of concerts I attended, musicians I met, and some stories best left untold . . .
