The making of bread or beer is a cultural event. Most cultures die from their own successes.

The goddamn human race is an example. They’ve cultured themselves to 7.9 billion and poisoned themselves just the same as yeasts do. Though yeasts don’t drag down entire ecosystems when they self-terminate.
